Act for Justice

think

‘He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.’ ’
- Micah 6 v 8 NIV

As we send this out our thoughts and prayer are with those in Haiti.  It reminds me that we cannot be passive in our faith and vision, that our world is in desperate need and we are called to act.

In our fight for justice, we can only combat slavery and human trafficking when each one of us puts our hand to the plough and plays our part.

When we meet and work together we can make a difference!  ACTFORJUSTICE groups are such an important part of Hope for Justice and our fight to see an end to slavery.  We know this isn't something that will be resolved instantly but we need to be committed to the cause.  Over the year we are going to be giving you specific campaigns to be involved in.

In the meantime here are some ideas to put your commitment into action:

  1. Raise awareness – put an event on at your church to inform people about the issues. Show a DVD and/or book a member of the Hope for Justice team to come and speak.
  2. Raise finances – Hope for Justice cannot operate without financial support.  You could consider doing a sponsored walk/silence/swim/ sitting in baked beans/whatever! How about organising a meal or cabaret or even a good old fashioned cake sale?! But if none of that appeals we will have a fundraising pack shortly to inspire you.
  3. Raise your commitment to prayer and fasting – I was recently at a church in Dumfermline and the pastor encouraged the people to commit to 21 days of prayer and fasting. Is that too long? How about one day a week? No? One day a month? Whatever you can commit to will make a difference.  We will not see freedom for the captives without prayer!
  4. Raise your expectation – We are so excited about 2010 and believe God will do mighty things.  We are busy planning for 'The Stand 2010' which will take place on Friday June 4th at the Manchester Apollo.  It will be an evening event with guest speaker Tony Campolo and worship with Graham Kendrick and Ben Cantelon.  It's a great opportunity to unite and seek God's heart for trafficked people.  Please do put the date in your diary, come as an ACTFORJUSTICE group and bring your church!  Tickets will be available very soon.

We're also really excited to announce that "The Stand" will also be taking place this year at Manchester Apollo on June 4th. Tickets go on sale on 1st February. This is going to be a great opportunity to get you and your church equipped to stamp out human trafficking in Europe.

pray

Pray that in 2010 we will see more rescues than ever before.

Pray for those working in frontline projects, that God will sustain and protect them.

Pray that as ACTFORJUSTICE groups we will continue to grow and be effective.

We are so thankful that you are part of the journey. We are grateful for your support and equally we want to support you. We want to hear from you.  Let us know how your group is going and what you are up to. Tell us how we can support and encourage you more. One of the team would love to come and visit you and /or speak in your church. So please email us. We look forward to hearing from you.

Yours in Him

Ben Cooley
